Both the New Moon and Full Moon this month form challenging aspects with the Pluto / Saturn conjunction that will be exact in January 2020. The full moon on April 15 is particularly challenging, falling at the final degree of Libra and opposing Uranus as well as squaring Pluto and Saturn.

Mercury Update
Mercury moved direct on March 29 but does not leave the ‘retrograde loop’ until April 17 and it makes its third and final conjunction with Neptune on April 2, suggesting the usual Mercury retrograde chaos and confusion may linger well into April. It may be wise to sit with any major decisions until this energy has cleared.

On a more positive note, this is a wonderful time for creative and imaginative projects as well as inner work of all kinds - dream work, active imagination, and meditation – and attending to your feelings. Remember, feelings are messengers from our soul and have wisdom to share with us if we have the courage to embrace them and find the space to attend to their messages.

2020 Saturn conjunct Pluto
Both the April New Moon and Full Moon form stressful squares with the Pluto / Saturn conjunction which will be exact in January 2020. These lunations give us a preview of the collective energy and personal challenges that await us with more intensity next year. My sense is that the recent horrific event in Christchurch is part of these challenges; it asks us all to look into our hearts and explore what divides us and explore how fear and hatred polarizes.  Jacinda Adern and the New Zealand people are providing inspiration in finding a positive way forward through a very painful and potentially polarizing event.

The Pluto Saturn cycle that is gaining momentum suggests the transformation of outworn structures and power shifts; it has also been associated with the rise of marginal disenfranchised groups and volatile market forces. It suggests the need for structural transformation at the deepest level in all spheres - the political, economic, social and cultural domains – and is often characterized by fear [of change], conservatism, authoritarianism and the undermining [sabotage] of existing structures as a fear based reaction.

The dwarf planet, Eris, is also a part of this line up and will be through 2020 as it is currently at 23 Aries and square to Pluto and Saturn as well as widely conjunct the Aries New Moon and opposite to the Libra Full Moon.

Eris is found way out past Pluto - in the Kuiper belt - she has an orbital time of 558 years while Pluto’s is 248. The discovery of Eris in 2005, lead to the reclassification of Pluto as a dwarf planet due to the realization that Eris is larger than Pluto. Astrologically Eris is connected with periods of disruption that lead to a new order, often through conflict. This is certainly what happened at the International Astrological Union’s 2006 meeting where this was decided, upsetting the status quo. It is also part of Her mythology as Eris is known as the Goddess of Strife. It was Eris who took revenge for not being invited to the wedding of Peleus and Thetis by releasing the Golden Apple that unleashed a series of events that lead to the Trojan War. Astrologically She is identified with external [and internal] disenfranchised parts of Self that may seek revenge if they are ignored. Certainly this is very evident in world politics at the moment with the rise of populism and I will add more to this story as 2019 and 2020 unfold.

Eris as part of this mix suggests that internal and external conflicts may highlight divisions that call for healing and new ways forward.

The April New Moon
The April New Moon falls on April the 5th and is conjunct Eris and square to Pluto, Saturn and the nodal axis. This is an intensely powerful combination that requires consciousness in order to not to fall into destructive / self-destructive reactions and responses. These aspects demand that we face our fears, insecurities and feelings of alienation / rejection /marginalization, avoid the urge to blame [others and Self] and seek revenge. Constructively used they suggest the potential to face our shadow [Pluto] and the underlying patterns and complexes that may lead to reactive patterns, especially when engaged in conflicts where we feel our freedom, self-expression and will [Aries] are being blocked.

Generally speaking, the New Moon is always a powerful time to start new projects that require courage and initiative, especially so in Aries, the first sign in the zodiac. Aries symbolizes the Warrior archetype which challenges us to define what we want to achieve, make plans and take action. Aries invites us to assert our sense of self directly and openly and have the courage to pursue what we want. The fiery, dynamic energy of Aries calls for conscious channeling of the Warrior Archetype into constructive outlets.

The Second Libra Full Moon for 2019
The April Full Moon falls on the 19th and forms a dynamic and stressful t-square with Uranus, Pluto, Saturn and Eris. This line up  continues the themes highlighted in the New Moon but the inclusion of Uranus and Eris as well as the t-square configuration increase the pressure and adds an impulsive and erratic quality that  highlights the need to work with repressed and alienated parts of Self.

The Full Moon in Libra always highlights the Aries / Libra polarity as the Sun is exactly opposite in Aries and as this is the second Libra full moon in a row and falls at the final degree of Libra it emphasizes both the challenges and opportunities inherent in the Libra Aries polarity. My sense is that the double hit of Libra is asking us to find fair and peaceful solutions to issues in  personal, local and global affairs.

With Uranus conjunct both the Sun and opposite the Moon it is essential to beware of our own impulsive behavior and try not to over react to others’ aggression. Uranus is known as the Great Awakener so there is the potential for major ‘ah-ha’ moments if we can give ourselves some space and open ourselves to insight. The challenge is to not fall prey to His shadow energy which can be restless and overstimulating to the point of mania; the Uranian urge for change can also become rebellious and contrary, activating the saboteur archetype. If you feel more wired than usual, see if you can accept the challenge to find a constructive outlet for the energy rather than acting in a way that is reactive and impulsive.

Generally speaking we are challenged to balance our Libran need for partnership, co-operation and compromise with the Aries need for independence and autonomy. Libra is concerned with fairness, equality, balance, harmony and is relationship or other-focused and inclined to compromise for the greater good while the Aries embodies the masculine Warrior archetype and is active, dynamic, competitive, forceful and egocentric. The full moon may bring to focus where we are out of balance [personally and collectively]. Remember, it is often though the mechanism of projection that we see this more clearly.
