October 2024 Newsletter
he second eclipse season for 2024 began last month with a lunar eclipse at 25 degrees of Pisces on September 18. This will be followed on October 3 - Australian time - with a solar eclipse at 10 Libra.
Both this month’s new moon new moon and full moon are powerful and worthy of our reflection.

October begins with all the outer planets retrograde: Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, Chiron and Saturn with Jupiter joining them on October 9 and Pluto stationing direct on the 12th.
Note: all dates are for Australian Eastern Standard Time.
All the planets from Jupiter out will be retrograde for a brief while until Pluto stations direct on the 12th. All these planets move retrograde once a year for anywhere from 3 ½ to 5 ½ months. Retrograde periods can be frustrating as they challenge us to focus inwards, re-evaluate and reflect. If we engage in this process, they can lead to new growth that results from a shift in perspective.
The heavy retrograde energy may slow things down, but it offers us both a gift and a challenge: the opportunity to look at things from a new perspective and to develop a more objective viewpoint. It suggests a time of reflection on the past, and a need to refocus before we move forward, personally and collectively.
Solar Eclipse / New Moon at 10 Libra
The New Moon on October 3 – at 4.49am AEST – is an Annular Solar Eclipse in the sign of Libra, as was the solar eclipse last October. An annular eclipse is where the moon does not fully cover the solar disc as it is further from the earth than at a total eclipse. A ring of fire will be visible around the Sun in the areas of the earth where the eclipse is visible. This eclipse will be visible over the eastern Pacific then tracks south over South America so it will not be visible here in Australia.
Both this month’s new moon new moon and full moon are powerful and worthy of our reflection.

A ring of fire will be visible around the Sun in the areas of the earth where the eclipse is visible. Remember, Solar Eclipses are very potent New Moons that mark endings and beginnings: they can herald a crisis, but they also provide the opportunity to wipe the slate clean and start again. They tend to be neutral energetically, but they often bring to the surface whatever has been buried, hidden and repressed, especially regards the sign and house where the eclipse falls in the personal horoscope.
Eclipses are also markers in the Nodal Cycle and can therefore herald major turning points and sudden changes of direction. They sometimes act as catalysts for major changes that serve our soul’s growth, but sometimes we feel changes are being forced on us as they can challenge our resilience and flexibility. This eclipse is conjunct the south node, suggesting that there may be something we need to let go, release or share.
This eclipse will highlight:
If the eclipse is activating a planet or point you will probably be feeling its energy already. The month before the eclipse may bring up issues that need to be addressed, but sometimes this can occur up to a few months before the eclipse if it is forming a tight conjunction or opposition to the Sun, Moon or Ascendant.
The eclipse is putting the spotlight on the Libra archetype. If you are feeling dis-empowered, or that life is not fair, you may need to find ways to assert yourself and beware falling into the Libra shadow, especially people pleasing, dependency and avoiding making decisions.
This eclipse [Sun and Moon] is also conjunct both Black Moon Lilith and Mercury and is at the apex of a T-square with Mars and Ceres. It may highlight Libra issues about compromise and co-operation where we feel we have given our power away or feel alienated because of our beliefs [Black Moon Lilith]. We may feel called to to speak our truth without becoming overly aggressive, which could only lead to further alienation [Black Moon Lilith].
This is an eclipse on the south node and its exact conjunction with BML suggests that something may need to be let go – a conscious sacrifice - perhaps an attachment to an ideal, a belief, a person, a relationship …or perhaps being a victim in some area of our life. The challenge is to speak up, but to do so clearly and diplomatically, without aggression [Mars & BML]. The gifts then could be a sense of feeling heard and perhaps inclusion in a new sense of community.
The next solar eclipse – in March 2025 – will fall opposite this point at close to 9 Aries, so if you have planets / points around 5 to 15 degrees of cardinal signs they will be re-activated and any issues that surface now may simmer for the next 6 months or require another perspective.
Full Moon [Supermoon] at 24 Aries 35 on October 17
The full moon in Aries falls on October 17 and is the closest full moon supermoon for 2024, intensifying its energy. It is conjunct both Chiron and Eris – both outsiders - and forms a quite challenging grand cross formation with squares to Pluto and Mars. Here the challenges of the recent solar eclipse continue to echo as we are challenged to balance our needs for freedom and autonomy [Aries] with our needs for relationship [Libra], which involves compromise.

This eclipse is conjunct the south node, suggesting that there may be something we need to let go, release or share.
This eclipse will highlight:
- The house where 10 Libra is located in your personal horoscope.
- Any planets or points within a 3 to 5 degree orb …between around 7 to 13 degrees of cardinal signs or 5 to 15 if using a 5 degree orb: especially Libra and Aries, but also Cancer and Capricorn.

The aspects are quite confronting, asking us to accept our wounds and imperfections [Chiron] and not allow ourselves to get lost in get caught in anger and a desire for revenge [square to Mars and Pluto]. Can we allow ourselves to own any feelings of alienation and recognize how we have played a part in the situation? Eris is always a wildcard and her exact [within 20 minutes] conjunction with the Moon is challenging us to find ways to own any sense of powerlessness and find constructive ways to channel our energy. Eris can be a troublemaker but is also associated with the whistle-blower so choose your fights carefully and try to lash out or speak up when in the grip of anger as there is a good chance you may regret it later.
This supermoon can be potentially transformative if we can own our shadow [Eris & Pluto] and find ways to:
The challenge here: Can we attend to Eris and Chiron’s message and come to some form of acceptance and embrace the disenfranchised parts of ourselves and others without anger or blame?
This supermoon can be potentially transformative if we can own our shadow [Eris & Pluto] and find ways to:
- Own where we feel alienated, marginalized and rejected
- Not fall into power struggles …especially over scarce resources
- Be inclusive and exercise conscious choice
- Be willing to make difficult decisions and not outsource them
- Be willing to speak up, but from a conscious space – from our heart.
The challenge here: Can we attend to Eris and Chiron’s message and come to some form of acceptance and embrace the disenfranchised parts of ourselves and others without anger or blame?
May the Goddess & God Bless You All
