October is strongly colored by the energy of Scorpio and its ruler, Pluto. Pluto stationed direct at the end of September, drawing our attention while Pluto squares the Full Moon on October 6. The theme is further emphasized as Jupiter changes sign this month and begins a 12 month transit of Scorpio.

Blessings

Jupiter to Scorpio
On October 10 2017 Jupiter moves into the sign of Scorpio where it will remain until November 2018. Jupiter has a twelve year cycle and therefore spends about 12 months in each sign.  Jupiter is one of the two planets – the other is Saturn – concerned with our socialization and education as well as how we relate to society, specifically the values and beliefs of our culture. Jupiter also represents the Principle of Expansion and the Search for Meaning. It symbolizes our ability to expand our view of the world, find meaning and manifest our goals. Traditional astrology refers to Jupiter as the Greater Benefic, or Bringer of Good Fortune, which we can understand as our ability to feel confidence and optimism in ourselves and life. The dark side of Jupiter is inflation and excess… it is wise to remember that Jupiter can also be destructive, grandiose and explosive.

Jupiter’s transit of Scorpio brings all these themes to the realm of Scorpio and highlights the potential for intense personal growth as Scorpio rules the process of death, rebirth and transformation. The Scorpio realm is the underworld that we can understand psychologically as the realm of the unconscious mind and the shadow. During this time many will have to face buried fears, repressed memories and own their dark sides and need to control and manipulate. Used constructively this can be powerfully cathartic and healing on both the personal and collective levels as previously hidden memories and information surfaces. In the personal birth chart this may relate to the affairs of any planets in Scorpio and the house where Scorpio is found.

The house where Scorpio is found in your chart may become a source of potential opportunities and is an area where you are naturally sensitive to issues around
  • Power, control and manipulation
  • Intimacy, trust and betrayal
  • Letting go
  • Sexuality
  • The process and archetype of death
  • The unconscious mind and the shadow

On a collective level Scorpio is associated with the following and all may become more prominent – in both functional and dysfunctional ways – over the next year:
  • Finance and banking– especially shared assets and loans
  • Mining Industry / Natural Resources
  • Funeral Industry / Palliative Care / Grief work
  • Uncovering information – espionage, the activity of whistle blowers as well as investigate journalism
  • Depth psychology
  • The use and abuse of power and trust
  • Organized crime / Underworld / Terrorism
  • The Occult Mysteries and Shamanism

The dark side of this transit can be an expansion and growth of the negative Scorpio energy, suggesting more national and international power and control issues, increasing crime, espionage and terrorism along with the potential for an increase in the level of international conflict.

Personally and collectively Jupiter is inviting us to grow beyond our fears and let go old negative patterns, however often this happens through re-experiencing old patterns with consciousness and a willingness to change.

October Full Moon
The Full Moon falls on October 6 falls at 12 degrees Aries 42 minutes forming a t- square with the Sun [conjunct Mercury], exactly opposite in Libra and Pluto at the apex, squaring all the Sun, Moon and Mercury.

The square from Pluto adds intensity to our feelings –reinforced powerfully on October 10 when Jupiter enters Scorpio - that may result in any long held resentments erupting with all toxicity that is the hallmark of repressed feelings. Better to take some time to tune in and process any resentment. The positive expression of this energy is the potential for catharsis and the transformation that can come through this process. It is an intense time and we may all need some healthy obsession to contain this very powerful energy.

The Aries Full Moon always provides us with insight into how we deal with the Aires / Libra polarity: the Arian need for independence, autonomy and challenges versus the Libran need for partnership, co-operation and compromise. Aries embodies the masculine Warrior archetype and is active, dynamic, competitive, forceful and egocentric. Libra embodies the feminine/ lover archetype and is more concerned with fairness, equality, balance, harmony and is more relationship or other-focused and inclined to compromise for the greater good. Ideally we can find ways to express both polarities, whatever our gender or sexual orientation.

Picture
Be aware that the Moon in fiery Aries may feel overshadowed and express Herself through anger or impulsive reactions.   Some questions for reflection:
  • How do you own and express your masculine and feminine energies …the God and Goddess within?
  • How do you balance your need for freedom and independence with your need for partnership?
  • Are you leaning too far to one polarity: too independent or too co-dependent, too aggressive or too conciliatory?
  • Has your primary relationship become unbalanced in some way? What can you do about this?

October New Moon
The New Moon on October 20 falls at 26 degrees Libra 35 minutes and is in a wide conjunction to Jupiter and Mercury, an exact opposition to Uranus and a tight quincunx to Chiron.

With Uranus in Aries opposite the New Moon in Libra [and the  Sun] the need for change and authenticity is strong. Uranus is often given the title, the Great Awakener, as he calls us to awaken to our true Self and the process of individuation. He challenges us to become authentic and demands that we honour our truth, whatever that may be for us. This can sometimes be a painful journey if others try to force us into old patterns of conformity that do not honour our soul’s truth. The calling for independence and autonomy will be very strong, so beware the urge to run away or over react - the urge suggests that there may be an imbalance that needs to be addressed – but see if you can use the Libran energy to speak your truth with tact and diplomacy  so you do not experience unnecessary isolation and alienation.

Libra is symbolized by the Scales of Justice and each year this New Moon illuminates the area of our chart [and psyche] where we have a need for fairness, partnership, equality and harmony. Social justice comes sharply into focus and is further emphasized by the conjunction with Jupiter. We may notice unfairness and inequality more and feel called to take a stand on behalf of others or ourselves.
Picture
The Libran Scales of Justice also challenge us to see where we have lost our balance in our lives, especially in our relationships. The Libran New Moon is always a powerful time to attend to our partnerships – professional as well as personal – as well as all significant one-on-one relationships, but beware the Uranian impulse to over-react.
May the Goddess & God Bless You All
