November sees a major shift in energy as Jupiter, the Sun and Mercury enter Sagittarius, bringing more optimism and buoyancy into the mix with the heavier Scorpio vibration, especially in the latter part of the month.

November begins with Venus, Chiron, Uranus and Neptune retrograde with Mercury joining them on the 17th and Neptune station direct on the 25th.
Note: All the dates below are for Australian Eastern Time.
The Venusian emphasis on values and relationships is still strong as Venus completes Her retrograde phase mid-month, but does not leave the ‘retrograde loop’ until mid-December. We may still be feeling some dissatisfaction with our lives if we realize that we have outgrown some of our involvements and they are no longer congruent with our values, but hopefully the Inferior Conjunction on October 27 has helped clarify for us what needs to change.
The key dates in the retrograde cycle of Venus are:
Here is a summary of the key themes of the Venus retrograde cycle that were included in the last Newsletter; just skip this section if you don’t need a refresher.
Remember, Venus is currently at the closest point to Mother Earth in Her cycle, calling us to reflect on whether who and what we find closest to us is a true reflection of our values. We are challenged to develop more objectivity and consciousness about all the things Venus rules including: personal values, relationships, like sand dislikes tastes, desires and self-worth.
On a deeper level the retrograde phase and the conjunction with the Sun on October 27 calls us to become more objective and conscious of our tastes, likes, etc. This process may relate specifically to the house where Venus is retrograding and the affairs of any planets that Venus will aspect in the natal chart during this time, especially by conjunction.
This new cycle which began at the Inferior Conjunction on October 27 falls at close to 3 degrees of Scorpio. The new 19 month cycle will therefore be highlighting Scorpio themes, especially regards the house where 3 degrees of Scorpio is found. Issues that may arise include:
If we fall into the shadow side of this transit, understand that this is usually fear based response and we need to face these fears. Our soul brings the fear to alert us to the need for greater honesty: Venus in Scorpio demand that we face the raw, naked truth about ourselves, our lives and our relationships in order to have greater self-esteem.
Sit with any shifts while Venus is still retrograde. The time after Venus moves direct and re-covers the degrees of the zodiac that She has moved backwards over – November 16 to December 18 – is the time to start to move forward and honour the insights of the retrograde phase, especially the time after December 8 when Venus conjuncts the Inferior Conjunction seed point of 3 Scorpio for the last time..
Remember that this cycle picks up threads from other cycles seeded in Scorpio that run in 8 year spans: what was happening for you in 2010, 2002, 1986, 1978 1970, 1962, 1954 etc.
Jupiter to Sagittarius: November 8
Jupiter has a twelve year cycle and therefore spends about 12 months in each sign, so on November 8 Jupiter makes its annual change of sign and moves into Sagittarius where it will remain until December 2019. Jupiter is very comfortable in Sagittarius as it is the ruler of that sign - Jupiter is said to be dignified here - but both the light and dark sides of the Sagittarian archetype will be magnified during the next year. This suggests more optimism, faith and confidence, both personally and collectively, but there is always the danger of excess, arrogance and inflation.
Jupiter in Sagittarius challenges us to expand our horizons, see the big picture and not be afraid to make a leap of faith. In a sense it is a call to renew our sense of faith and optimism. Issues may arise around faith, religion and philosophical frameworks and all the following Jupiterian realms which will be highlighted – positively and negatively – during this time.
Traditional astrology refers to Jupiter as the Greater Benefic, - or Bringer of Good Fortune - which we can understand as our ability to feel confidence and optimism in ourselves and life. The challenge is to open ourselves to these wonderful gifts while avoiding the shadow of excess: overdoing things, getting carried away, over-committing ourselves etc. The dark side of Jupiter can be pompous, opinionated and arrogant and is prone to inflation and excess.
Mercury Retrograde
Mercury moves retrograde on November 17 at close to 13 degrees of Sagittarius, emphasizing the themes outlined above, and remains retrograde until December 7 when it turns direct at close to 27 degrees of Scorpio. Please be aware that the retrograde phenomenon is activated from the time that Mercury enters the loop to the time that it leaves: October 29 to December 25. The most chaotic times are when Mercury stations – the few days around November 17 and December 7 when Mercury adjusts to the change of direction.
Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius focuses our attention on the area of our chart where Sagittarius is found. It provides a welcome time to reflect on where and how we would like to grow and expand and how we may do this without going overboard.
Key dates / degrees
• Exact dates: retrograde from November 17 to December 7
• Sensitive degrees: 27 Scorpio to 13 Sagittarius
• Full time of influence: 8th July to September 2
• Time for insight: around November 27/28 when the new Mercury cycle begins at the Inferior Conjunction of Mercury and the Sun
• Time to act on new ideas / beliefs: December 7 to 25
The whole retrograde phase is a potent time for reflection and review … a time when we can become aware of habitual beliefs and thought patterns and make the adjustments necessary to align our thinking with the person we are now. This is a great time to meditate, reflect, research, seek answers, sort out your paperwork, return calls and generally attend to all the things you have been too busy to do earlier.
This is also a time when normal communications can go haywire and things often don’t run to plan. Remember to be patient, maintain your sense of humour, CHECK ALL PLANS, BACK UP YOUR DATA AND DON’T TAKE IT PERSONALLY IF THINGS GO WRONG!
Currently Mercury is still visible in the evening sky but he will disappear for about two weeks when he is lost in the blaze of the Sun from around November 23 to re-appear in the sky just before sunrise around December 2. In esoteric terms this is the most intense and powerful part of the retrograde process as this when Mercury assumes his alter ego as Psychopomp and Guide to the Underworld. In this role Mercury is associated with the Egyptian scribe Thoth, who has access to the Halls of Record [Akashic records]. It is during this phase that we may have our most powerful insights and shifts, peaking around November 27/28 when the new cycle begins at the Inferior Conjunction of Mercury and the Sun. Esoteric writers suggest that the retrograde phase of Mercury creates an opening that allows access to the wisdom of our soul and the Cosmos.
Remember, Mercury retrograde always provides us with the opportunity to free our thinking from habitual ruts and develop a more conscious set of mental attitudes and beliefs. Concerns may arise early in the retrograde phase but around the time the new cycle begins on November 27/28 new solutions and insight may emerge. Sit with your insights until after December 7 when Mercury goes direct. The next few weeks are the time to express your insights and put new plans into action.
New Moon in Scorpio November 8
The November New Moon falls close to 15 Scorpio on November 8 and is in a wide square to Mars, its traditional ruler. Mars can activate anger and aggressive impulses - the flight or fight syndrome – making this new moon a potentially volatile time where we may be challenged to assert our self, hopefully without aggression.
The Scorpio New Moon always challenges us to let go fear, by moving closer towards it, rather than running away, and thereby allowing ourselves to experience deeper intimacy with ourselves and others. This is a powerful time for deep sharing and strengthening of intimate connections of all kinds.
Scorpio is a passionate and intensely emotional sign that can fear the depth of feeling that it experiences and may choose to bury or repress these feelings due to the discomfort they arouse. Scorpio’s reputation for control is a fear based reaction of ‘holding on’ while the challenge is to ‘let go’ control and learn to trust in the Self and allow the free flowing of feeling.
Blessings

Full Moon in Gemini: November 23
The November Full Moon falls close to 1 degree of Gemini on November 23 and is opposite the Sun, Jupiter and Mercury, suggesting that this may be a constructive time for communications and clearing the air. The symbolism suggests a time of renewed optimism, especially as it comes so soon after Jupiter’s movement into Sagittarius.
The Gemini Full Moon highlights the Gemini / Sagittarius polarity, putting the spotlight on communication, speaking our truth, sibling relationships, learning and understanding how the mind works. With the full moon opposite to Jupiter and Mercury [which are both conjunct the Sun], there is an emotional intensity to the lunation, emphasizing whatever emotional space we find ourselves experiencing at this time along with a huge need to speak our truth. This can be wonderfully empowering but beware of the Sagittarian shadow which can get carried away and sometimes say too much, promise too much and live to regret it.
