May 2026

Both this month’s full moon and new moon are powerful, and we are still – collectively – experiencing the effects of the new Saturn Neptune Cycle. It will take some time for a new order to emerge from the chaos.

Best wishes

Full Moon at 11 Scorpio 20 on May 2: Wesak

Each year the Scorpio full moon which falls in either in April or May marks the annual Festival of Buddha, known as WESAK. This lunation honors both the physical birth of the Buddha and his spiritual birth or enlightenment. Wesak invites us to refocus on our spiritual lives and look at what needs to be released or let go, so we can become more compassionate and awakened. The days either side of Wesak [the full moon] are potent times for inner work, reflection, meditation and letting go.

Picture
This Full Moon in Scorpio [Sun opposite in Taurus], forms a T-square with Pluto at the apex and a wide separating trine from Jupiter to the Moon. Pluto is the ruler of Scorpio, emphasizing both the constructive and more destructive sides of Scorpio and Pluto. The Scorpio Full Moon is always highly charged and emotionally intense, doubly so with the square from Pluto. It is an opportunity for us to explore our emotional blocks and fears, especially blocks to intimacy and sharing in both our personal relationships - and on a global level - as well as issues about power, control, trust and betrayal. The trine from Jupiter will hopefully add some optimism and buoyancy.

This Scorpio Full Moon also challenges us to explore whatever we have buried deep in our personal underworld. This is a fortuitous time for shadow work as well as deep sharing and strengthening of intimate connections of all kinds.

The opposition with the Sun in Taurus highlights the Scorpio / Taurus polarity: the urge to build and create as opposed to the urge to destroy, let go and transform. It is also about the urge to share and risk vulnerability [Scorpio] versus the urge to hold onto what is ours [Taurus]. Issues around these l patterns may come up for review, especially in the house where 11 degrees of the fixed signs of Scorpio and Taurus [conjunction and opposition] fall, as well as the houses where Leo and Aquarius [squares] are found. The effects will be more powerful if you have any planets and points close to 11 degrees of fixed signs.

Remember, Wesak invites us to open our hearts and reflect on what loving kindness means, both for our relationship with ourselves and with others.

New Moon in Taurus: May 17 at 25 degrees of Taurus 57

This New Moon is another Super Moon – one that falls closer to the Earth – and is in the second in a series of five. Super Moons impact on the earth’s waters and can sometimes coincide with strong storms and flooding. Energetically they can have a powerful effect on anyone who identifies as lunar.

The Taurus New Moon falls on May 17 and is conjunct both Mercury and Uranus as well as  sextile to Jupiter. Each year the Taurus New Moon invites us to reflect on our values, resources, and our willingness [or otherwise] to share with others. It may also challenge our sense of security and issues to do with how well we have mastered our senses, personally and collectively.

Picture
Mercury asks us to explore our thinking around these themes and perhaps to verbalize them to those close to us. The conjunction from Uranus is at odds with the conservative Taurus which values its security. Uranus is asking us to be open to change and break free of old limitations,  become more authentic. The shadow side of this could be acting impulsively or destructively if we feel our security is threatened.

With Uranus in a wide conjunction this lunation will activate the house where 26 / 27 Taurus is located in your horoscope and any planets or points:
  • around 24 to 29 degrees of Taurus and early Gemini
  • Any planets or points between 24 to 29 degrees of fixed signs - Taurus, Scorpio, Leo and Aquarius - and those around the early degrees of mutable signs.

With Jupiter sextile the Sun and Moon at 21 Taurus this suggests any planets from 21 degrees of Taurus will receive a harmonious sextile in the weeks ahead and points around the opposite degree in Scorpio will receive an even more auspicious trine.

May the Goddess & God Bless You All
