Total Lunar Eclipse on March 3

The full moon on March 3 is a Total Lunar Eclipse and will be visible in Australia if the sky is clear. It is the second - and final -  lunar eclipse in Virgo which may echo back to March 2025 when there was also a total lunar eclipse at close to 24 Virgo. The eclipse will be visible for a few hours and peak around 10.37pm [AEDT]. The totality will be in effect for about an hour and as the Earth’s shadow falls on the Moon it will turn red. This effect is called a Blood Moon ...worth staying up for!

The eclipse falls at 12 degrees of Virgo 54 minutes and anyone with planets and points close to 13 degrees of mutable signs – especially Virgo and also Pisces, plus Gemini and Sagittarius – will be most sensitized to its effects. The eclipse will sextile Jupiter and form a t square with Black Moon Lilith, bringing Her themes into focus.

Eclipses are energetically neutral and will bring to the surface whatever has been bubbling, often below the level of consciousness. Lunar eclipses occur at full moons so emphasize the potential for illumination, insight and awareness and bring with them the possibility of new emotional insights …very powerful times for meditation, journalling and inner work of all kinds. With Mercury retrograde in the opposing sign of Pisces and coming oppose the eclipse point around March 10 and 11 there is plenty of potential for shifts and insights.

The Virgo Full Moon is always a call to re-balance body, mind and spirit and become more grounded as the Moon directly opposes the Sun in Pisces.  It is an opportunity to see if we are lost in our dreams [Pisces] or lost in the everyday details and ‘busy-ness’ of our life [Virgo]. How can we create more balance between these realms? In the house where 12 to 13 degrees of Virgo is found we may feel called to analyse, prioritize and DO something to function more efficiently.

Virgo is the perfectionist and worrier of the zodiac so this full moon challenges us to find more gentleness and compassion for ourselves and others It may require letting go destructive [self] criticism and judgements that generate anxiety and alienation [dysfunctional Virgo]. It may be the perfect time to decide to do something you have been putting off for some time.

Black Moon Lilith at the apex of the t-square with the Moon and Sun may constellate the following issues, especially for people with planets around 8 - 13 degrees of mutable signs. This can play out in many ways, but be alert for the following:
  • The call to be true to the Self.
  • A desire for freedom and perhaps a rebellion against subservience.
Shadow themes may also be experienced as:
  • Frustration at needing to compromise and perhaps acting out in some way that ultimately undermines us.
  • Feeling exiled and banished if we are our true selves.
  • The need for revenge
  • Falling into the victim or perpetrator dyad.
If we fall into the shadow, we may need to take some time out for inner work, which is always beneficial at an eclipse, and
  • Reclaim banished and exiled parts of Self.
  • Be willing to make a conscious sacrifice of these shadow aspects of Self.
  • Be willing to compromise and share.

This may be a time when we need to restrain our urges to lash out and instead look within to see what is being reflected back and see ourselves as well as the ‘other’ with compassion. With Jupiter sextile the Moon and trine the Sun there will be support for this process.

New Moon in Pisces on March 19

The New Moon falls at close to 28 degrees of Pisces and is conjunct both Neptune and Saturn, repeating themes from the Pisces New Moon of 2025, but adding the intensity of the Saturn Neptune conjunction from last month. Anyone with planets around late degrees of the mutable signs, [especially Pisces - and to a lesser degree Virgo and maybe Gemini and Sagittarius] as well as early degrees of cardinal signs [Aries and Libra as well as Cancer, and Capricorn] may feel the effects more intensely as this new moon may re-activate issues that people have had with both Saturn and Neptune activating planets and points in the personal horoscope.

The Saturn Neptune conjunction may have dissolved meaningful structures, but this New Moon may be an invitation to reflect on what has been lost and set new intentions about how to move forward.

This strong Neptune / Pisces energy can have many positive as well as challenging effects including enhanced sensitivity on all levels – physical, emotional and energetic - which can be wonderful for our spiritual practice, inner work, intuition, and creativity, but much more challenging for getting things done in the ‘real’ world. Neptune and Pisces want time to BE, FEEL and DREAM, so see if you can schedule in some down time.

Picture
Each year the Pisces New Moon can assist us to open our hearts and minds to the transpersonal and imaginal realms and to re-awaken us to the wisdom of our dreams and the power of love and compassion…to see all life forms as one.  One way of honoring this energy is to take time out for reflection and attending to our dreams and connecting with our feelings.

Mercury stationed retrograde on February 26 at 22 degrees of Pisces. Here are a some dates for those of you who like to work with this energy.
  • February 12 to April 8: in the retrograde loop
  • Stations retrograde at close to 22 Pisces on February 26
  • March 7: Conjunct the Sun: Inferior conjunction: marks the beginning of the new cycle at around 17 degrees of Pisces. Great time to meditate and seek new answers.
  • March 21: Stations direct on around 22 degrees of Pisces.
  • April 8: leaves the retrograde loop.

As the new cycle begins in Pisces, it intensifies the challenge to re-view and re-evaluate all things connected with this archetype and may stir up memories and feelings from the past.
We may also be challenged to review:
  • the affairs of the house[s] where the retrograde action takes place in your horoscope [8 to 22 degrees of Pisces].
  • Any planets any points that fall between these degrees of mutable signs, especially those close to the Inferior Conjunction degree of around 17 degrees of Pisces.

The whole retrograde phase is a potent time for reflection and review … a time when we can become aware of habitual beliefs and thought patterns and make the adjustments necessary to align our thinking with the person we are now. This is a great time to meditate, reflect, research, seek answers, sort out your paperwork, return calls, and generally attend to all the things you have been too busy to do earlier.

The inferior conjunction of Mercury with the Sun may be a turning point if we are willing to engage with the process of reflection and re-evaluation.

Remember, Mercury retrograde always provides us with the opportunity to free our thinking from habitual ruts and develop a more conscious set of mental attitudes and beliefs.

May the Goddess & God Bless You All

Best wishes for 2026
