The first part of March has a very Piscean mood with five planets all in that watery sign: Sun, Mercury, Venus, Chiron and Neptune. By the time of the Equinox – on March 21 – the energy has shifted to the fiery realm of Aries with the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Uranus all in Aries and Mars forming an exact square to the Sun on March 25.

Full Moon in Virgo: March 2, 11.51am AEDT
The Full Moon in Virgo always falls opposite the Sun in Pisces and asks us to ground our Piscean visions and find a practical application for them. This is intensified by the presence of Neptune [the ruler of Pisces] which is conjunct the Sun and opposite the Moon.
Virgo is the perfectionist and worrier of the zodiac so this lunation brings both these themes in focus and challenges us to find more gentleness and compassion for ourselves and others [functional Pisces]. It may require letting go destructive [self] criticism and judgements that generate anxiety and alienation [dysfunctional Virgo].
The Virgo Full Moon is also a call to re-balance body, mind and spirit; to see if we are lost in our dreams [Pisces] or lost in the everyday details and ‘busy-ness’ of our life [Virgo]. How can we create more balance between these realms?
Both Virgo and Pisces have a strong desire to serve and can therefore tend to submerge their own identity through selfless care of others. This full moon invites us all to reflect on what service means to us and whether we have lost ourselves in the roles of carer and servant or perhaps become the martyr in some area of our life. This will be especially relevant for anyone with planets in Pisces and Virgo.
Neptune opposite the Moon [and conjunct the Sun] can heighten sensitivity [on all levels] that can be wonderful for our spiritual practice, inner work and creativity, but much more challenging for getting things done in the ‘real’ world. The potential for self-delusion and denial is here, as well as the potential for strong intuitive insights. Take some time out to tune in and connect with your feelings, otherwise they may overwhelm you. The Moon in Virgo calls us to do something practical, to ground our Piscean impulses and visions.
Mars - in fiery Sagittarius - is in a wide square to the Full Moon [and the New Moon later in the month] creating a t-square pattern. This is a very energizing image and could escalate the Virgoan tendency to ‘busy-ness’ but could also suggest impatience, irritation and anxiety. This theme runs through the month as the Sun comes to an exact square with Mars on March 25 when tensions may peak.

Jupiter stations retrograde on March 9 at 23 Scorpio, marking the beginning of its annual retrograde phase which continues until July 11 when it stations direct at 13 Scorpio. The times when a planet stations are when it is said to be most powerful; it is as if the God / Goddess personified by the planet is standing still and demanding we notice them. Jupiter’s station calls us to reflect on how we use his energy of expansion, growth, faith and optimism; a process that will continue [often at subliminal levels] until it moves direct in July.
During the retrograde phase growth may slow down or stop, especially in the house where Jupiter is transiting, as well as in relation to any planets that Jupiter aspects during this time.
During the retrograde cycle we are challenged to review our growth, examine our moral codes and reflect on where we may not be using Jupiter constructively. The shadow side of Jupiter may manifest as an excess or a deficit and therefore highlight where we may be unconsciously inflated, impulsive, and arrogant or naïve …or where we may sabotage our growth through fear and negativity.
The New Moon is Pisces falls on March 18 at close to 27 degrees of Pisces and is conjunct Chiron and square to Mars.

This New Moon in Pisces reinforces the strong Neptune / Pisces flavour of the full moon on March 2 and can have many positive as well as challenging effects including the already mentioned enhanced sensitivity which can be wonderful for our spiritual practice, inner work and creativity, but much more challenging for getting things done in the ‘real’ world
The Pisces New Moon can assist us to open our hearts and minds to the transpersonal and imaginal realms and to re-awaken us to the power of our dreams and the power of love and compassion…to see all life forms as one. One way of honoring this energy is to take some time out for dreaming and attending to our dreams well as connecting with our feelings.
Chiron is conjunct the New Moon and also represents a doorway to the transpersonal realm, but calls for us be true to our Self [or Higher Self] and perhaps to take a stand that may lead us to feel alienated or rejected. Sometimes we pay a price for moving beyond the stereotyped roles and rules of the collective but this aspect indicates the need to stand in our truth: the call to individuate.
Chironic forms of healing may well be very powerful at this time. Homeopathy, energy/ vibrational medicine and attending to the wisdom revealed through our dreams can all be especially potent.
Mercury RetrogradeMercury moves retrograde on March 23 at close to 17 degrees of Aries and remains retrograde until April 15 when it turns direct at close to 5 degrees of Aries Please be aware that the retrograde phenomenon is activated from the time that Mercury enters the loop to the time that it leaves: March 9 to May 4. The most chaotic times are when Mercury stations – the few days around March 23 and April 15 when Mercury adjusts to the change of direction.
Key dates / degrees
The whole retrograde phase is a potent time for reflection and review … a time when we can become aware of habitual beliefs and thought patterns and make the adjustments necessary to align our thinking with the person we are now. This is a great time to meditate, reflect, research, seek answers, sort out your paperwork, return calls and generally attend to all the things you have been too busy to do earlier.
Currently Mercury is still visible in the evening sky but he will disappear for about two weeks when he is lost in the blaze of the Sun from around March 27 to re-appear in the sky just before sunrise around April 7. In esoteric terms this is the most intense and powerful part of the retrograde process as this when Mercury assumes his alter ego as Psychopomp and Guide to the Underworld. In this role Mercury is associated with the Egyptian scribe Thoth, who has access to the Halls of Record [Akashic records]. It is during this phase that we may have our most powerful insights and shifts, peaking around April 2 when the new cycle begins at the Inferior Conjunction of Mercury and the Sun. Esoteric writers suggest that the retrograde phase of Mercury creates an opening that allows access to the wisdom of our soul and the wisdom of the Cosmos.
Remember, Mercury retrograde always provides us with the opportunity to free our thinking from habitual ruts and develop a more conscious set of mental attitudes and beliefs. Concerns may arise early in the retrograde phase but around the time the new cycle begins on April 2 when new solutions and insight may emerge. Sit with your insights until after April 15 when Mercury goes direct. The next few weeks are the time to express your insights and put new plans into action.
Celebrating the Autumn Equinox: March 21
March 21 marks the Aries Ingress, better known as the Autumn Equinox in the Southern Hemisphere [Spring Equinox for our friends in the Northern Hemisphere]. At 3.15am [Australian Eastern Daylight Time] the Sun will move into the sign of Aries and will be exactly overhead at the equator. This marks the time when day and night are of equal length and heralds a major turning point; from now on the days will become shorter and darkness will soon prevail. [Reverse for the Northern Hemisphere]

The Autumn Equinox marks the second and final of the two harvest festivals in the Celtic Wheel of the Year. In Ancient Greece this was the time of the Greater Mysteries that were celebrated at Eleusis, 14 miles from Athens.
Esoteric writers say this is a magical time when the magnetic field of the Earth is influenced by the Sun’s position directly overhead the equator. A doorway or portal opens to other realms due to a reduction in the Earth’s magnetic field. This is a powerful time for ritual and meditation that can offer us wisdom, inspiration and guidance. The equinox energy lasts for about 24 hours either side the exact moment.
This is the time to acknowledge with gratitude all the good things in your life that you may tend to take for granted… time to stop and reflect on the abundance that you enjoy on a daily basis. It is also time to reflect on your personal harvest and become conscious of what you have achieved and manifested during this last solar cycle. You may choose to hold a thanksgiving dinner where everyone expresses their gratitude for life’s riches, or you may prefer a more private ritual such as the one below.
[Ring Lucy on 0418 382 924 if you would like to attend a ritual to honour the Equinox in Melbourne.]
A Private Equinox Ritual
When you are ready sit quietly, centre yourself and invoke your Highest Inspiration, then call for the assistance of your guides as you light your harvest candle. Gently come into your heart and allow yourself to remember all the good things in your life – the people, things, works, interests, pets, family, travel – anything and everything that gives you joy. Allow yourself to feel sincere gratitude as your mind floats over the richness and abundance that you often take for granted. Form the intention to be more mindful and appreciative on a daily basis.
Next, reflect on what you have achieved and learned over the last year. Give thanks for both the achievements and lessons of the last year, and then spend some time reflecting on what has not gone the way you had wished. What can you learn from these experiences to take into the new cycle at the coming Winter Solstice? Keep your candle to light whenever you need to remember to be more thankful.
Blessed be!
