I have focused on the retrograde cycle of Mars and the two lunations this month and will hold over the information on Uranus to Taurus until next month.
Mars is currently shining more brightly in the evening sky since 2003 as it is makes its closest approach to the Earth in its two year cycle and this coincides with its perihelic apparition. The peak of brightness will be around July 27 at the time of the exact opposition with the Sun. Mars is rising at close to 9.30pm and setting at around mid-day [Melbourne time] so look to the east late at night or the west in the morning to see the red planet.

The new moons in June, July and August are all super moons: super moons occur when the new moon or full moon occurs close to the lunar perigee, or the time in its cycle when it is at its closet to the Earth, creating the optical illusion of the Moon being bigger than usual [at the full moon]. Super moons can coincide with extreme weather patterns and phenomena such as earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions. The super moon phenomena suggest that the volcanic activity in Hawaii and Bali may continue and perhaps escalate.
If you would like more information check out the EarthSky website but be aware that the dates / times are for the US.

The Gemini New Moon / Super Moon on June 14 suggests a busy time when our curiosity may be stimulated. It can create a more sociable and extroverted atmosphere where we may feel inclined to explore something new or just break out of our routine.
The Gemini New Moon is square to both Neptune and Chiron and in a wide conjunction to Mercury in Cancer, suggesting we may all be super sensitive around this time. The conjunction with Mercury challenges us around our thinking and communicating and asks us to take ownership for both our words and our thoughts.
Chiron squares the New Moon, symbolizing an opening to the transpersonal realm. Chiron calls us to be true to our Self [or Higher Self]. Sometimes we pay a price for moving beyond the stereotyped roles and rules of the collective but this aspect may indicate the need to stand in our truth and risk rejection; it is the call to individuate.
Chironic forms of healing may well be very powerful at this time: homeopathy, energy/ vibrational medicine and attending to the wisdom revealed through our dreams can all be especially potent.
Neptune calls us to open our hearts and open to the realm of feelings, images, symbols and imagination. Can you allow your feelings and dreams to offer you guidance while avoiding denial, self-delusion and wishful thinking? Take some time out to tune in and connect with your feelings, otherwise they may overwhelm you.

The June Full Moon falls at close to 6 Capricorn on June 28, exactly opposite the Sun in Cancer. The full moon is essentially about working with polarized feeling states and seeing how we can find a more centred space where we can be this and that, not just this or that.
The Cancer / Capricorn polarity always invites us to reflect on the balance between our public and private lives, career and family as well as achievement and nurturing. Life may have become all work and no play, leading us to feel overburdened with our responsibilities and therefore in danger of sinking into a depressed mood which allows the inner critic to take over. If life feels too hard, try to take some time out around the full moon to reflect on how you can experience more balance in your life, especially quality time with loved ones.
The Full Moon is conjunct Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, emphasizing the Capricorn/ Saturn archetypes. Saturn’s presence reminds us to stay grounded and accept responsibility for whatever is going on in our lives. We may need to claim our authority and set clearer boundaries and not let the Inner Critic overwhelm us.

2. Mars Retrograde
Mars moves retrograde on June 27 at 9 Aquarius 12 and will remain retrograde until August 28 when He turns direct at 28 Capricorn. He is currently shining more brightly in the evening sky than any time since his very close approach in the 2003 retrograde cycle.
Every 2 years when Mars moves retrograde He comes closer and retrograde phase coincides with the perihelic apparition [same as 2003], the time when Mars is at its closest to the Sun, a similar phenomenon to a super moon. The peak of brightness will be around July 27 at the time of the exact opposition with the Sun. Mars is currently rising at close to 9.30pm and setting at around mid-day [Melbourne time] so look to the east late at night or the west in the morning to see the red planet.
Mars is the Roman God of War and in astrology he symbolizes the action principle and our inner warrior. Normally Mars moves fairly fast through each sign of the zodiac [around two months per sign], but when he prepares to move retrograde his movement slows and he spends several months in one sign. This can sometimes lead to a time of frustration and delays as we are asked to review our actions, goals and modus operandi.
Mars appears to move retrograde when it is at its closest to Earth, this proximity can release repressed anger, especially at the exact opposition to the Sun which this cycle is July 27. Please take note of this date and try to avoid emotional reactions that can lead to arguments.

- Mars retrogrades back into Capricorn on August 13 and remains there until September 11.
Whenever a planet goes retrograde [appears to move backward from our vantage point on Mother Earth] we have an opportunity to develop a new perspective on how we relate to its energy. A doorway opens and we can become develop a more objective viewpoint. It suggests a time of reflection is necessary, especially about how we deal with the affairs of the house where Mars is retrograding.

It may be a time of low energy where we lose interest in what we have been doing and find that what gave us energy and ‘turned us on’ no longer works and we feel confused and lacking in direction. Plans and projects may slow down and face obstacles, postponements and cancellations [by us or others] There is always a danger of acting out, or acting impulsively when Mars is retrograde so keep your finger near your pause button and try to think before you act and commit yourself.

Remember, this is an opportunity to become conscious of our patterns in these areas and TO CONSCIOUSLY ACT DIFFERENTLY. The time from May 12 can be a time when things slow down causing us to experience frustration and self-doubt. July 27 is the trigger point in the cycle when tensions can explode as repressed feelings surface.

3. The Winter Solstice: June 21 [AEST]
The Winter Solstice [Southern hemisphere] or Cancer Ingress of the Sun marks the time of the longest nights and shortest days when the Sun is reborn from the darkness. The times of sunrise and sunset appear to stand still for two weeks before and after the peak time of June 21, and then the day light begins to slowly lengthen. The Winter Solstice symbolizes the rebirth of the solar principle and the light and the divine spark within us all. It marks the beginning of a new solar cycle and is time for those of us who live in the Southern Hemisphere to create our New Year Resolutions and reflect on what we want to achieve in the coming year.

- Express or repress our aggressive and competitive urges
- Deal with anger and assertion

The Solstice marks the moment of the Cancer Ingress, the moment when the Sun is overhead at the Tropic of Cancer and moves into the sign of Cancer. The four ingress charts [the solstices and equinoxes] mark the turning points in the seasonal cycle and the annual solar cycle. As such they are given added weight in astrology and are considered to influence the next quarter, or 3 months.
This Solstice occurs just before the first quarter lunation and the chart contains a very powerful grand cross configuration that involves the Sun, Moon, Saturn and Chiron, reactivating the Saturn Chiron square that was a big part of the 2017 astrological landscape.
My sense is that Saturn Chiron Cycle challenges us to take responsibility for our personal and collective woundings - both internal and external - and in doing so become more authentic and less bound by our super ego and its conditioned fears.
Anyone who has read this newsletter for some time knows that I believe the only way to work with the challenge of a grand cross is to find a way to sit in our centre. Whatever is going on in your life – especially if you have planets in the first ten degrees of cardinal signs – see if you can create some quiet time for reflection and ask for the guidance of your heart.
A Simple Solstice Ritual
The most traditional way to celebrate the Solstice is to rise early on the day of June 21 to observe and honour the sunrise. Ideally you will find a place where you can observe the horizon, free of buildings and welcome the Sun as He appears. Allow yourself to be filled with wonder and gratitude for His rebirth. As the Sun gains strength and power, feel yourself being blessed with His light and vitality and invoke the blessing of the Divine Masculine for the year ahead.
A special Solstice meal is another wonderful way to honour this energy. This is the time for roast dinners and a roaring fire where a special Yule log was burned to honour the Sun and bring his warmth and radiance into the home. If you don’t have a fire then light gold candle to honour the Sun and invite his blessings into your life and home.
A more intimate ritual could also be called for…
Create a sacred space with candles, incense, meditation and intention. Tune into your inner guidance to find the seeds of new potentials that are stirring within your inner darkness. When you are ready, record the seeds in red or gold ink [as long as they do not seek to influence or harm any other individual] and then burn them in your fire or from your candle. As the paper burns, see your seeds flowering and your potentials manifesting as the days grow longer and the Sun grows stronger. Give thanks and light your candle whenever you need to refresh your visions and intentions.
Blessed Be!
