There are two potent minor aspects this month that become magnified as they feature prominently in the charts for both the July Full Moon and New Moon. Mars is conjunct the Sun all month while Pluto opposes the Sun during the first half of the month and makes a strong statement in the Full Moon chart.

July begins with Saturn, Neptune and Pluto all retrograde while Chiron joins them on July 2. All the dates below are for Australian Eastern Time.
Pluto and Mars are big players this month as they both aspect the Sun [and each other], making powerful statements in both the Full Moon chart for July 9 and the New Moon chart for July 23.
The Sun and Mars are tracking close together all month and next month, firstly in Cancer, then in Leo. They form an exact conjunction on July 27 with Mars making a big statement in both the charts for this month’s Full Moon and New Moon and next month’s Lunar and Solar eclipses.
Mars makes His exact opposition to Pluto on July 2 setting a decidedly Plutonic tone for the month, especially as
Pluto is at the midpoint of his retrograde cycle where He makes his closest approach to Mother Earth for 2017 on July 10. Astrologically we see this as an aspect of opposition between the Sun and Pluto.
The combined energy of Sun, Mars and Pluto is very intense, volatile and potentially explosive. Power struggles may erupt and the shadow may seek control and revenge unless we are mindful of our true motivation. Under these influences we can become the victim or the abuser; the danger is to fall into submission or go on the attack.
Try to stick to the issue in any conflict and find the middle path - of the heart - and be assertive rather than aggressive. Potentially we are called to align our personal will with our higher will and let go destructive urges that come from an obsessive sense of perceived injustice.
July Full Moon
The July Full Moon falls at close to 17 Capricorn on July 9, exactly opposite the Sun in Cancer. The full moon is essentially about working with polarized feeling states and seeing how we can find a more centred space where we can be this and that, not just this or that.
The Cancer / Capricorn polarity always invites us to reflect on the balance between our public and private lives, career and family as well as achievement and nurturing. Life may have become all work and no play, leading us to feel overburdened with our responsibilities and therefore in danger of sinking into a depressed mood which allows the inner critic to take over. If life feels too hard, try to take some time out around the full moon to reflect on how you can experience more balance in your life, especially quality time with loved ones.
This Full Moon forms a very dynamic and challenging t-square configuration with the Sun conjunct Mars in Cancer while the Moon is conjunct Pluto in Capricorn and they are all square to Jupiter in Libra. This suggests the potential for angry outbursts and impulsive reactions, perhaps motivated by a sense of grief or dis-empowerment as outlined at the beginning of this newsletter. With both Mars and the Sun in Cancer we may tend to passive-aggression rather than open confrontation. The challenge here: be prepared to own your shadow and stand in your power without dis-empowering anyone else.

July New Moon
The July New Moon falls at close to 1 Leo on July 23 on the same day that the Sun moves from Cancer to Leo. The lunation is the fourth and final New Moon Super-moon in a row. Super-moons are lunations [new and full moons] that fall when the Moon is at its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit. They are associated with dramatic weather patterns, sometimes even earthquakes. On an energetic level they can amplify our physical, emotional and mental states even more than a typical lunation [new or full moon].

The Leo New Moon illuminates the area of our chart [and psyche] where Leo is located… the area of life where we want to discover our gift for creative self-expression and may have a need for recognition, appreciation and validation. The New Moon is always an opportune time to make resolutions and begin new projects, hence the Leo New Moon challenges us to embrace our need to shine, feel special and appreciated as well as discover outlets for self-expression and romance.
This New Moon is very dynamic and super-charged as it is not only in fiery Leo AND a Super Moon but is also conjunct Mars and square to Uranus in Aries. This is an extremely fiery, volatile and combustible combination where we may experience a fight or flight reaction, especially if we do not appreciated, validated or respected. Try to be mindful that the inner rebel and saboteur may be activated and press the PAUSE button if you start to see any unhealthy patterns emerging. This is a time to be true to the Self – or Higher Self – rather than the ego, especially as Uranus always challenges us to align with the Self and become more AUTHENTIC.
