This month has a distinctly Virgoan flavour as we have both the North Node and Virgo transiting that sign all month and the Full Moon in Virgo on February 23. The earthy influence of Virgo challenges us to
get organized and attend to any details that we may have overlooked.

Mercury stationed retrograde on January 26 but does not leave the retrograde loop until February 14 when it will have recovered all the degrees of the zodiac that it retrograded over. Therefore the first two weeks of February challenge us to sort out any confusion that occurred during the retrograde phase and implement any insights that we received. Try to remain patient and focused on the tasks at hand. Often we can be bogged down with attending to problems that arose during the retrograde phase and can feel frustrated with our attempts to move forward.
Jupiter is sitting on the North Node until the middle of February after meeting at the NN twice late last month. They will meet again in June. The exact dates of the three conjunctions are
The transiting North Node tends to push us out of our comfort zone, challenging us to grow and become more conscious regards both the sign and [especially] the house where it is transiting. With both Jupiter and the NN in Virgo the message seems to be a strong call to become more conscious of the Virgoan archetype and find some way to honour it within our lives. Hence we are being called to attend to the details [whether we want to or not] and clean up our acts, especially in the house where Virgo is located in our personal horoscope. It is also a time for humility and to reflect on how we can be of service. Opportunities [Jupiter] may come more through attention to these details and a willingness to let go of our ego. This message is reinforced later in the month as the Full Moon falls in the Pisces / Virgo polarity.
The New Moon on February 9 falls at 19 degrees of Aquarius, marking Chinese New Year and the beginning of the Year of the Monkey. Chinese New Year is traditionally time to honour the ancestors, let go the past year, give thanks for safe passage to this time of new beginnings and ask for the blessings for the year ahead. For those of you who did not get around to setting clear intentions for the New Year this New Moon can provide another opportunity to clear your clutter – physically, emotionally and mentally – and reflect on what you need to embrace to move forward in your life.
This lunation always emphasizes the archetype of Aquarius and the area of our chart [and psyche] where Aquarius falls. The Aquarian energy invites us to take a more detached perspective on our lives and to reflect on friendships, group involvements and community. What does all this mean for you? It may be time to join a group, reach out to your friends or get involved in something that has an altruistic or humanitarian motivation.
The New Moon is square to Mars, a tense aspect that can lead to over–reaction and aggression. Try to be mindful of the urge to act up / act out and find some constructive outlet for the high energy that this aspect can stimulate: perhaps some new challenge or physical outlet is called for. Try to be mindful of your feelings as this aspect can be accident prone if we are rushing [over-reacting] or angry.

The Full Moon in February falls on the 23rd at 3 Virgo. The Full Moon in Virgo always falls opposite the Sun in Pisces and asks us to ground our Piscean visions and find a practical application for them. This is intensified by the presence of Neptune [the ruler of Pisces] which is conjunct the Sun and opposite the Moon.
Both Virgo and Pisces have a strong desire to serve and can therefore tend to submerge their own identity through selfless care of others. This full moon invites us all to reflect on what service means to us and whether we have lost our self in the role of carer, victim or servant. This polarity can tend to manifest as co-dependent patterns and issues with alienation and victimization if we totally submerge our identity into the role of carer / devotee / servant.
The Pisces Full Moon is also a call to re-balance body and mind, spirit and matter, and to see if we are lost in our dreams or lost in the everyday details of our life. How can we create more balance between our inner and outer worlds?
This strong Piscean and Neptunian energy at this time can have many positive as well as challenging effects including a heightened sensitivity that can be wonderful for our spiritual practice, inner work and creativity, but much more challenging for getting things done in the ‘real’ world. The potential for self-delusion and denial is here, as well as the potential for strong intuitive insights. Take some time out to tune in and to connect with your feelings, otherwise they may overwhelm you.
Both Neptune and Pisces seek to open our hearts and minds to the transpersonal and imaginal realms and to re-awaken us to the power of our dreams and the power of love and compassion…to see all life forms as one. The Moon in the opposing sign of Virgo calls us to do something practical, to ground our Piscean visions, intuition and feelings.
