Eclipses for 2023

PictureAnnular Solar Eclipse
Solar eclipses usually occur twice a year at special New Moons when the Sun and Moon are together [or conjunct] and align with planet Earth. The Sun, and Moon must also be within 10 degrees of the transiting nodes of the moon. All eclipses can herald a crisis but they also provide the opportunity to wipe the slate clean and start again. Eclipses tend to be neutral energetically but they function to bring to the surface whatever has been buried, hidden and repressed.

At a solar eclipse the Moon's shadow eclipses the Sun, so the logical, rational, solar principle is overshadowed by the unconscious, instinctual and feeling nature of the Moon .An eclipse will focus your attention on a specific area of life, symbolized by the astrological house where it occurs. Eclipses emphasize the process of review and function to spotlight the affairs of the house where they fall, drawing our attention to any facets of this domain that require our attention. The effects of each eclipse last about six months with the energy building in the weeks and sometimes months preceding the actual event.

The time before a solar eclipse is often a time of low energy when we are called to honour the dark of the moon process of letting go. If you have been able to see what needs to be released [and have done some work to release your blocks, forgive and grieve] then you are in a good position to take advantage of the new moon energy that comes after the eclipse and set a conscious intention to make a new start, especially in the area of your life represented by the house where the eclipse has taken place.

If your birthday is five days either side of the solar eclipse it could mark the end of a period of difficulty. It will be very empowering to set new intentions for your life and create a small ritual to honour this event.

All lunations [new moon and full moons including eclipses] have a powerful effect on the earth’s electro-magnetic field that can also affect our personal energy fields. Eclipses intensify this effect and the disruption they produce can create the opportunity to reorganize these fields in a more coherent way. It is possible to see where we are sabotaging or connecting with our soul’s desires and align ourselves with our inner truth. Meditation and quiet self-reflection allows both the space for the messages from our soul /unconscious to be heard and the stillness needed to align with the creative / re-organizing potential of these celestial events.

Lunar Eclipses occur at special Full Moons when the Sun and Moon are in opposition [either side of the Earth] and the Earth's shadow eclipses the Moon. They are not considered to be as powerful as solar eclipses but they are more potent than normal full moons. They often activate the degrees of the previous solar eclipse for revision and review and can bring up repressed memories and feelings.

2023 has 2 solar eclipses and 2  lunar eclipses. The dates are all for Australian Eastern Time
  • Annular Total Solar Eclipse on April 20 at 29 Aries
  • Appulse Lunar Eclipse on May 6 at 15 Scorpio
  • Annular Solar Eclipse on October 15 at 21 Libra
  • Partial Lunar Eclipse on October 28 at 5 Taurus

Eclipses tend to be energetically neutral but they function to bring to the surface whatever has been BURIED, HIDDEN and REPRESSED. They become even more potent when they fall on planets or angles in the birth chart. Then they can be a trigger for endings and beginnings in the affairs of any points they touch.

Eclipses can signal a crisis in the affairs of that life area that requires a willingness to face your fears and come to terms with feelings and memories that we would prefer to avoid and ignore. The spotlight will illuminate the problem so it often becomes easier to deal with our fears rather than deny their presence.

Eclipses are opportunities to wipe the slate clean and start again. They can open doorways so that the debris of the past can be cleared away

Solar eclipses are powerful New Moons and as such are very potent times to set CONSCIOUS INTENTIONS for the future. To embrace the opportunities we must be willing to review this area of life experience and be willing to:
  •  confront the past and whatever you may have buried here
  •  confront your fears and your own darker motivations i.e.- shadow

Eclipses are times of endings and completion and are also opportunities to
  • let go of whatever is holding us back in this area of   life
  • end a cycle of experience and move to a new level of awareness and insight.

The house where the eclipse occurs
  • will be under the spotlight for 6 months
  • is an area of life that requires your time, energy and attention
  • requires some HOUSEWORK
  • may be a source of ongoing problems if you choose to ignore the issues that are drawn to your attention.

Eclipses often have a 19 year cycle. Can you remember what was happening 19 years ago? It may be a time to revisit and release something that resonates with this time. Remember, you have 19 more years of growth and consciousness to help you with this task.

Eclipses are also very powerful times to meditate as they mark the end of one cycle and the beginning of another - so try to set aside some quiet time to open to the wisdom that is available at this time.
