August begins with Mercury, Saturn, Chiron, Neptune and Pluto all retrograde.
Note: all dates are for Australian Eastern Time.
Retrograde Update
Mercury, Saturn, Chiron, Neptune and Pluto are all retrograde now and Uranus will join them next month. Mercury is st in the retrograde loop until the end of the month, so the energy is pointing inwards and suggesting a productive time for introspection and review.
Mercury stationed retrograde at 15 Leo on July 18 and will make its Inferior Conjunction [conjunct the Sun] on August 1 at 9 Leo and will station direct on August 11 and leave the retrograde loop on August 25. The Inferior Conjunction is the peak moment in the retrograde cycle and a powerful time for inner work and shifts in perspective, so take some time out for reflection.
Any planets any points that fall between 4 and 15 degrees of fixed signs, especially those close to the Inferior Conjunction degree of around 9 degrees of Leo have been activated and challenged to review their perspective on life. As the new cycle begins in Leo, it intensifies the challenge to re-view and re-evaluate all things connected with this archetype, especially our need for self-expression, recognition and appreciation.
Remember, Mercury retrograde always challenges us with the opportunity to free our thinking from habitual ruts and develop a more conscious set of mental attitudes and beliefs.
Best time to launch any new projects is sometime after Mercury moves direct …after the 11th
Two Helpful Transits this Month
Considering all the pain and chaos in the world at the moment I feel it is important to reflect on a series of positive transits that will occur over the next few years with Saturn sextile Uranus and Uranus sextile Neptune both peaking this month.
Here is a list of these potentially constructive transits:
The Saturn Uranus Cycle lasts approximately 45 years, and we are currently at the waning sextile with Saturn sextile Uranus. The cycle began in 1988 at the conjunction and will end in 2032 when a new cycle will begin.
This cycle is said to be the basic engine of western industrial society and free enterprise [capitalism and state-owned capitalism]. It speaks of the practical application of science and technology along with its benefits and shadow.
It highlights the relationship [and tension] between Saturn and Uranus
:
Saturn:
…and can be either authoritative and responsible or authoritarian & repressive
With Uranus:
…and can be both the humanitarian & the libertarian or the saboteur.
The meetings of these two planets call humanity to find a bridge between the past and the future, between our need for freedom, change and innovation and our need for stability and security. Constructively – as the sextile indicates - it suggests the potential of finding responsible ways to embrace change, let go our fear of the unknown and be willing to pioneer the creation of new life structures.
The Uranus Neptune Cycle lasts about 171 years and the current cycle began in 1992 at 16 Capricorn.
This cycle is said to be highly creative and associated with innovation and the idealization of the intellect and technological invention. It suggests the possibility of breakthroughs and new visions of how technology can be used and how society can become. Some writers have suggested it is where spirituality meets science.
We are currently at the waxing sextile, a time of new possibilities. Alexandar Ruperto, a trail blazer when thinking about the big cycles, says the accent in this cycle is on the use and abuse of power. What must be learned is how to use the power from Uranus for changes [any invention] for the benefit of all.
August Full Moon at close to 17 Aquarius
…on August 9 at 5.55pm AEST. Generally speaking, full moons highlight a sign and house polarity as the Moon opposes the Sun.
At this time there are no major aspects to the Sun or Moon, but Mercury is retrograde in Leo opposite to Pluto and Mars is in a very exact opposition to Saturn and Neptune. Pluto is challenging us to reflect deeply on how we speak and use the power of our mind while Mars is acting as a catalyst for anyone having Saturn Neptune transits …anyone with planets around 0, 1 or 2 degrees of cardinal [Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn].

Here is a list of these potentially constructive transits:
- 2025 to 2026 Saturn will sextile Uranus three exact hits …began in April this year
- 2025 to 2027 Uranus will sextile Neptune five times
- 2026 to 2028 Uranus will trine Pluto 5 times
- July 2026 to February 2032 10 exact hits of Neptune sextile Pluto
The Saturn Uranus Cycle lasts approximately 45 years, and we are currently at the waning sextile with Saturn sextile Uranus. The cycle began in 1988 at the conjunction and will end in 2032 when a new cycle will begin.

:
Saturn:
- authority, law & order, financial and governmental structures
- stability, status quo, responsibility, conservatism
- fear, repression, restriction, authoritarianism
…and can be either authoritative and responsible or authoritarian & repressive
With Uranus:
- change, innovation, progress, technology
- need for freedom and liberty
- rebellion, freedom at any cost
…and can be both the humanitarian & the libertarian or the saboteur.

Generally, this full moon emphasizes the Leo / Aquarius polarity and asks us to reflect on how we balance these two energies. The Leo archetype encompasses the performer and the monarch [King and Queen] while the Aquarian archetype includes the rebel, the reformer, the humanitarian and the social worker. Leo’s challenge is to master the ego while the Aquarian challenge is to be a vehicle for reform and social change. The full Moon in Aquarius suggest the challenge to balance our needs for self-expression with our needs for community and being part of something larger than the ego.
August New Moon at 0 Virgo
On August 23 at 4.06pm AEST forms a number of tight and challenging aspects. Firstly, it is in an almost exact square to Uranus, and secondly, it forms the apex of a yod formation with Pluto, Saturn and Neptune. This means the lunation is being activated by all the transpersonal points – Uranus, Neptune and Pluto - plus Saturn, challenging for anyone with planets close to 0 Virgo.
Anyone with planets around early mutable signs [Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces], or late fixed signs [Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius] will find this lunation can activate the transit of Uranus they are experiencing. Beware acting on impulse and reflect on how you can be a channel for constructive change rather than reacting from your shadow.
Anyone with planets around late Leo or early Virgo will experience the effect of the yod with the planet being quincunx to Pluto, Saturn and Neptune as well as square to Uranus. This is a very dynamic pattern and suggests you may be at a crossroads in your life and need to take – or forced to choose – a new path forward. Change is necessary [Uranus] but caution is advised. Pluto is calling you to claim your power and Neptune to trust what you feel, but the whole picture may not be available so be prepared to wait until any fog clears and your intuition is clear. Saturn may complicate matters by activating the perfectionist and inner critic but can also be an ally if we can remain grounded and pragmatic.

For the rest of us, this New Moon is a great time to honor Virgo with self-improvement plan, whether that is a diet, a detox or get fit program… anything that looks at sorting out our bad habits. It could also be an opportune time to attend to your book work and clear any clutter. The strong Virgo energy invites us to engage in spring cleaning on all levels - physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual - and get ourselves organized. The functional expression of Virgo is all about service, attention to detail, efficiency, and self-improvement.
This New Moon can sometimes highlight the shadow side of Virgo which can play out as a tendency to self-criticism and worry that can heighten anxiety and the perfectionist patterns that paralyze us. Remember that the New Moon is neutral and highlights our patterns for good or ill so we can see them more clearly and decide how we can best respond. It is a time for honest self-reflection but certainly not self-criticism.
