There is a lot of movement this month as the planets station direct [Venus] or station retrograde [Mercury, Saturn and Pluto].

The dominant theme continues to be the highlighting of our VALUES, with Venus still in the retrograde phase, the Full Moon falling in Venus ruled Libra and the New Moon in Venus ruled Taurus. Adding to this is Mercury’s second retrograde cycle for 2017 which begins in Taurus.

Blessings

April begins with Jupiter and Venus retrograde with Saturn joining them on April 6, just before Venus moves direct on April 15. Mercury moves retrograde on April 10 and Pluto also joins the retrograde pack on April 20.

All the dates below are for Australian Eastern Time.
  • April 6:  Saturn retrograde
  • April 10: Mercury retrograde
  • April 11: Full Moon in Libra
  • April 15: Venus direct
  • April 20: Pluto retrograde
  • April 20: Sun to Taurus
  • April 21: Mars to Gemini
  • April 26: New Moon in Taurus
  • April 28: Venus to Aries

The Gods and Goddess, through their emissaries the planets, continue to challenge us to sort out WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT FOR US. Venus is known in popular astrology as the Goddess of Love and Beauty but She has a much deeper significance as an indicator of our VALUES. Though out March, April and May we are being asked to re-evaluate our lives through the lens of our VALUES as Venus is highlighted repeatedly.

This emphasis on Venus and the planets and signs that She rules may lead us to feel some dissatisfaction with our lives if we realize that we have outgrown some of our involvements. There may be new involvements and passions that are calling, that may have been calling us for some time; it is the time to think seriously about how we can align our outer reality with our inner calling and CORE VALUES.

This newsletter will focus on the following Venus ruled phenomena
  • Venus retrograde  cycle
  • Mercury retrograde in Venus ruled Taurus
  • Full Moon in Venus ruled Libra
  • New Moon in Venus ruled Taurus

The April Full Moon falls on April 11 at 21 Libra 32
…is a particularly powerful Full Moon as it activates a t-square with Jupiter conjunct the Moon,  opposing the Sun conjunct Uranus with everything squaring Pluto which  sits at the apex of the t-square.

The Full Moon in Libra always highlights the Aries / Libra polarity as the Sun is exactly opposite in Aries. We are challenged to balance our Libran need for partnership, co-operation and compromise with the Arian need for independence and autonomy. Libra embodies the feminine lover archetype and is concerned with fairness, equality, balance, harmony and is relationship or other-focused and inclined to compromise for the greater good while the Aries embodies the masculine Warrior archetype and is active, dynamic, competitive, forceful and egocentric. The full moon may bring to focus where we are out of balance here and it is often though the mechanism of projection that we see this more clearly.

Feelings are emphasized and can become explosive with Jupiter conjunct the Moon. With Uranus opposing the Full Moon the need for independence and autonomy is emphasized, but beware the urge to run away or over react; the urge suggests that there is an imbalance that needs to be addressed, but consider carefully the implications of any impulsive action.

Pluto is square to the full moon and resentments that have been lurking in the sub-conscious may erupt inappropriately if we do not take the time to centre ourselves and take responsibility for how we feel. There is always a danger of power struggles when Pluto enters the picture as we may fear being controlled or manipulated. In essence we are being called to stand in our truth and trust in our own higher wisdom to guide us with integrity through this period.

Picture
Looking at the bigger picture …this Full Moon reactivates the heavy Uranus square to Pluto that has been active for a several years now with the Moon opposing Uranus in Aries and forming a square with Pluto in Capricorn, creating a very tense t-square. The Uranus Pluto square has been a world changer and a catalyst for major political, economic and social change. Psychologically it  asks to let go fear that keeps us holding onto things / people / habits  [Pluto in Capricorn],  and open to new, perhaps quite different paths / patterns / solutions that give us more freedom and the ability to express our individuality [Uranus in Aries]. Whatever has outlived its usefulness needs to be transformed or destroyed… and the more we are able to let go and open to new solutions, the easier it will be for us personally and collectively. Uranus and Pluto are both transpersonal planets that serve the soul and the higher good. The major change they bring is often uncomfortable and confronting for the ego, but ultimately transformative for the soul.

Update on Venus Retrograde

Venus stations direct on April 15, completing the retrograde movement that began on March 4, however the entire retrograde phase does not complete until May 19 when Venus has re-covered all the degrees of the zodiac that She has retrograded over.

Key dates in this retrograde cycle
  • Venus retrograde: March 4 to April 15
  • Sensitive degrees: 27 Pisces to 13 Aries
  • Inside the retrograde loop: January 31 to May 19
  • Venus disappears as the Evening Star around March 19
  • Venus conjunct the Sun / New Venus Cycle begins: March 25 at close to 5 Aries
  • Venus reappears as the Morning Star around April 8

During Her retrograde phase Venus calls on us to reflect on whether who and what we find closest to us is a true reflection of our values.   In effect we are being challenged to develop more objectivity and consciousness about our CORE VALUES as reflected through our relationships and involvements with lovers, partners, friends and associates. Involvements where you do not feel valued and heard will come into focus for RE-EVALUATION.

Sit with any shifts while Venus is still retrograde. The time after Venus moves direct and re-covers the degrees of the zodiac that She has moved backwards over – April 15 to May 19 – is the time to take action.

Saturn stations retrograde on April 6
…at close to 27 degrees Sagittarius, marking the beginning of its annual 4 month retrograde phase cycle.  Saturn’s annual retrograde phase always heralds  the need for a reality check, especially regards the area of life symbolized by the house that it is transiting. Saturn is at its closest to Earth when retrograde and its house position can highlight where we need to take more responsibility for our lives and do some ‘housework’. Saturn’s station and retrograde motion invites us to reflect on boundaries, authority and ambition… what they mean for us and how we go about achieving them. As part of this reflection we may encounter our fears and insecurities through the voice of the inner critic … the internalized negative voice of authority. Saturn used constructively is always authoritative while the negative polarity can be authoritarian and controlling. Saturn challenges us to claim our authority in a positive way and not give it away to either those who seek to control us or the negative inner voice that tells us we are inadequate.

The effects of Saturn’s station will be experienced most strongly in the houses where § is transiting and the house with Capricorn on the cusp. Constructively owned, Saturn’s retrograde motion is an opportunity to:
  • Become more grounded, pragmatic & responsible
  • Create new forms and structures
  • Develop a stronger sense of personal authority and mastery.
  • Create clearer boundaries that enable you to function more efficiently.
  • Develop a more conscious relationship with your inner critic.

Mercury moves retrograde

… on April 10 at close to 5 degrees of Taurus and remains retrograde until May 4 when it turns direct at close to 24 degrees of Aries. Please be aware that the retrograde phenomenon is activated from the time that Mercury enters the loop to the time that it leaves: around March 27 to May 22. The most chaotic times are when Mercury stations – the few days around April 10 and May 4 when Mercury adjusts to the change of direction.

Key dates / degrees
  • Exact dates: retrograde from April 10 to May 4.
  • Sensitive degrees:  24 Aries to 4 Taurus
  • Full time of influence: March 27 to May 22
  • Key time for insight: around April 20 when the new Mercury cycle begins at the Inferior Conjunction of Mercury and the Sun
  • Time to act on new ideas / beliefs: May 4 to 22.

The whole retrograde phase is a potent time for reflection and review … a time when we can become aware of habitual beliefs and thought patterns and make the adjustments necessary to align our thinking with the person we are now. This is a great time to meditate, reflect, research, seek answers, sort out your paperwork, return calls and generally attend to all the things you have been too busy to do earlier.

Currently Mercury is still visible in the evening sky but he will disappear for about two weeks when he is lost in the blaze of the Sun from around April 14 to re-appear in the sky just before sunrise around April 27. In esoteric terms this is the most intense and powerful part of the retrograde process as this when Mercury assumes his alter ego as Psychopomp and Guide to the Underworld. In this role Mercury is associated with the Egyptian scribe Thoth, who has access to the Halls of Record [Akashic records]. It is during this phase that we may have our most powerful insights and shifts, peaking around April 20 when the new cycle begins at the Inferior Conjunction of Mercury and the Sun. Esoteric writers suggest that the retrograde phase of Mercury creates an opening that allows access to the wisdom of our soul and the wisdom of the Cosmos.

Remember, Mercury retrograde always provides us with the opportunity to free our thinking from habitual ruts and develop a more conscious set of mental attitudes and beliefs. Concerns may arise early in the retrograde phase but around the time the new cycle begins on April 20 when new solutions and insight may emerge.  Sit with your insights until after May 4 when Mercury goes direct. The next few weeks are the time to express your insights and put new plans into action.

Pluto turns retrograde April 20
The times when a planet stations are when it is said to be most powerful… it is as if the God is standing still and demanding we take notice. Pluto always invites us to engage in deep soul searching, confront our fears and own our shadows. The danger here is resorting to manipulative or controlling patterns or other destructive behaviours / attitudes that are motivated by fear.

The April New Moon falls in Taurus on April 26, putting the spotlight on the Taurean part of all of us and highlighting values, security and our relationship with the physical, material and financial realms.

With Venus being the ruler of Taurus, this is an auspicious time to review the whole Venus retrograde process that is coming to a close and set some intentions as New Moons are natural times for action and fresh starts.

Picture
Mercury is still retrograde, and widely conjunct the New Moon, asking us to carefully consider any changes that we may be planning. The energy of Taurus is slow and steady and the gift of this New Moon could be the opportunity to get grounded and be very pragmatic and realistic about any plans we may have formulated over the last few weeks.
